Partes de la Cara (Parts of the Face)
The teacher will only speak in Spanish for the duration of this class for a more immersive language learning experience.
Materials needed: Tape, blank face print out, printed out facial features, crayons.
Workshop Activities:
Vocabulary and Reading
1) The teacher will introduce the vocabulary using choral repetition and showing students the pictures of the facial features or by pointing to their own face.
Tip: Students will often mimic the manner in which a word is being presented to them so try whispering, yelling, cheering, etc the vocabulary to get learners more engaged!
Vocabulario: Cara (Face), Ojos (Eyes), Nariz (Nose), Boca (Mouth), Orejas (Ears)
2) The teacher will read a book about faces to the class. A possible book to read is Hola Cara, Hello Face by Aya Kahil.
Make a Face
1) The teacher will cut out and hang up all of the different facial features in sections on the wall labeled with the name of the feature. It would also be helpful for the teacher to have their own example with their completed face using the same printout.
2) All of the children will receive a print out of a blank face.
3) The teacher will instruct the students to pick out the correct number of each feature to stick onto their face by pointing to the correct part and saying the feature in Spanish(Ex. Chicos obtengan una (1) nariz por su cara!). The teacher will repeat this activity until the faces of all of the students have all of the features.
4) The teacher will go over all of the parts of the face by using their own image to show the class each of the features in their correct location.
Craft Activity
-Time Permitting-
1) Students will be instructed through both words and gestures to color in the faces with crayons provided.
